ESSAY 1:In both Haiti and West Africa, the African populations remained about the same, but were maintained in different ways, causing there to be two different types black government in each location.
ReplyDeletePara 1: In Haiti, 90% of the population were slaves. The population was kept high by constant import of new slaves. Caused there to be a revolution which eventually instated a government ruled by Africans.
Para 2: Western Africa provided the slaves in exchange for manufactured goods. This did not actually produce a major decrease in population. Caused there to be rich African kings and emperors that rounded up the slaves and sold them.

ReplyDeleteESSAY 2: Both the Spanish and Ottoman empires subjugated existing peoples to further their economy and expansion, but had different economies, the Ottoman economy being more profitable than the Spanish.
ReplyDeletePara 1: Spanish empire took land that was already full of people and used the natives to their advantage. They became very rich for a short amount of time by forcing slaves to mine silver in their colonies before inflation caused them to become poor again.
Para 2: The Ottoman empire took advantage of Janissaries to work instead of slaves, still from existing population. They used produced raw materials agriculturally and textiles as their main exports. Their access to indian ocean and mediterranean trade made them very rich
ESSAY 3: The American and Haitian Revolutions were both inspired by popular philosophy in Europe, but one completely changed social structure and one did not.
ReplyDeletePara 1: The American revolution did not change the social heirarchy at all. The ideas of the revolution were taken from thinkers in Europe.
Para 2: The Haitian Revolution was a complete overthrow of existing hierarchy. The ideas also came from Europe.
